Gina Forcelledo was born in Havana, Cuba. She emigrated to St. Louis, Mo., USA, where she was married and had three children. She moved to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for two years and Lima, Peru for two years while her husband was on assignment for his organization. After returning to the USA, and while living in Fairfax, Va., Ms. Forcelledo had another child. During the time she raised her children and kept house, Ms. Forcelledo did volunteer work in Fairfax County schools, little league and the Red Cross Virginia Chapter. When her children were teenagers, Ms. Forcelledo started attending community college and eventually transferred to George Mason University where she graduated with an M.Ed. degree in Counseling and Development from their Education Department. Part of this program included two practicum and two internships with Arlington, Va. County Department of Social Services and Arlington County, Va. Substance Abuse Services working with the Hispanic population. Upon graduation, Ms Forcelledo worked for Alexandria, Va. Mental Health Substance Abuse Department as a Therapist I. While there, she also worked part-time for the Washington Area Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse as a manager and counselor for their DWI Hispanic Program. Ms. Forcelledo left Alexandria to start a better position with Montgomery County, Md. Outpatient Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, where she worked for seventeen years as a Therapist II. Her duties included facilitating therapy groups for families and individuals, couples counseling, individual therapy, teaching addiction awareness classes, conducting seminars for the staff, crisis interventions, and assessments for mental illness. She also conducted substance abuse assessments for Hispanics and other ethnic clients, including Afro-American, Asian, Gay & Lesbian and other diverse populations. In 2005 Ms. Forcelledo migrated to Florida where she presently has a private practice in Seminole, Florida. |
