Dr. Allen is "dual-licensed" as a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. In 2003, she also became a Registered Counselor in Washington, where theCounselors.com headquarters are located. She was awarded an M.A. in Psychology from Vermont College in 1983, and in 1987, became licensed as both a Professional Counselor and a Chemical Dependency Counselor in Texas. While attending school, Dr. Allen served as Asst. Administrator for California State Psychological Association and Administrator for Wright Institute, Los Angeles. She served as Director of an eating disorders program for Saint Joseph's Hospital in 1987, and in 1989, served as Director of the PTSD Unit for Psychiatric Institute of America. Dr. Allen managed a large community clinic in Fort Worth from 1992-1997, conducting therapy while supervising 8 staff therapists. In 1992, she founded the American Psychotherapy and Medical Hypnosis Association, providing a free service to help people locate ethical hypnosis treatment throughout the United States. Dr. Allen is Certified in Trauma Resolution, and in 1994, she became a Registered Sex Offender Treatment Provider. After doctoral studies at Texas Women's University, she became a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, completing her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology at La Salle University in 1995. Dr. Allen is married with one daughter living, and one who died in 1989. She believes that love and self esteem are the keys to happiness.
