I am a North Carolina certified school counselor and have over twenty-five years of experience in teaching and counseling. I am a graduate of Davidson College in Davidson, NC, where I received the A.B. in History and of The Citadel in Charleston, SC, where I received the M.Ed. in School Counseling. I have North Carolina licenses in teaching and school counseling. Currently the Guidance Department Director at Piedmont High School in Monroe, NC, I emphasize a holistic approach to school counseling and guidance, with the talents, needs and dreams of the student being paramount. With the growth of home schools and very large high schools, guidance services can often be meager or non-existent. I have received a number e-mails on my public school website from students wishing that they had a virtual school counselor with whom they might interact and receive guidance. As in a well-run guidance office, a virtual school counselor can provide college and career guidance, help with minor or moderate academic, social, or family problems, help with teaching students how to use the Internet as powerful research and exploration tool for college and scholarships, help with proofing college and scholarship essays, help with preparing for college or scholarship interviews, and help with career guidance. Just as the regular school counselor is trained and qualified to where many hats, the virtual school counselor can guide students and their parents over a wide variety of hurdles.
