COUNSELING
|
I began my journey as a therapist at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey, where I graduated with a BFA Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1984. I was very interested in art history, as well as the symbolism in art. As a studio artist at Rutgers, I focused on photography. After graduation and working for a year, I decided to return to school for my Masters Degree in Creative Arts in Therapy. I graduated from Hahnemann University with a MCAT degree in 1987. During my studies at Hahnemann in Philadelphia, PA, I completed internships at The Developmental Center for Autistic Children, as well as the inpatient psychiatric unit for adolescents and the adult psychiatric unit. After graduation from Hahnemann, I was employed as an art therapist at Wordsworth Academy in Elkins Park, PA. I then worked as an outpatient individual therapist at a Family Counseling Service in Camden, NJ. After the birth of our son in 1989, our family moved to York, PA, to be closer to extended family. I was employed as an art therapist in the Wellspan adult psychiatric unit at York Hospital. Wellspan offered a group for Smoking Cessation. For nearly ten years after leaving Wellspan, I was employed by the Lehman Center as the Clinical Director of the crisis nursery. During this time, I saw clients on an outpatient basis, as well as supervised graduate student and other therapists. During this time I became interested in Mind/Body Health. I worked as part of a team with a physician specialist in chronic pain as well as an acupuncturist. I have been in private practice for nearly ten years, seeing both adults and children. I have an interest in treating those individuals struggling with chronic pain, trauma, depression and anxiety. I am also interested in helping those that are in the midst of life transitions. Art can help with identifying issues as well as helping with appropriate expression of feelings. It is not necessary to be an artist or know how to draw to benefit from art therapy. I feel it is my combination of therapeutic verbal skills and my skills as an art therapist that moves individuals through the process of therapy in a timely manner. I utilize imagery and visual tasks to enhance my client's path toward healing. I currently live in York, PA, with my husband and two children and look forward to working with clients in this new and exciting medium of online therapy. |
