Marla Dow is a licensed professional counselor practicing in Oregon. While raising her family and prior to completing her counseling degree, she led church-based parenting, marriage, and grief counseling classes in her local church. Once her family was grown, Marla went on to pursue her dream of becoming a professional counselor, receiving her Master of Arts degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from George Fox University (formerly Western Evangelical Seminary) in 1998. In her past role as a Mental Health Case Manager, Marla worked in residential and day treatment programs with adults having severe and persistent mental illness. As a Mental Health Specialist in a county mental health clinic, she worked on a crisis intervention team serving the community, hospital, jail, and school settings. She was a member of the County’s Flight Team, a disaster response team dispatched to schools and locations in the county. Marla’s work with at-risk children, youth, and families began six years ago, in a rural school district, providing resources, counseling, and training to families and educators in the community. She wrote two grants implementing after-school and summer programs for children and youth, with parenting classes for the families. Marla currently works as a school counselor in grades K-5. She is a member of the school district’s Crisis Response Team, providing support and intervention to students, teachers, and community members. In her private practice Marla provides individual, couple, family and group therapy. She is a member of the American Counseling Association and Oregon School Counselors Association.
