Michael has a particularly interesting career as a counselor and Social Worker. He lives in the South Island of New Zealand, but he began his career in England, in 1983. Recently he has returned from working for UNICEF in the Maldives where he was upskilling local social workers and helping in the development of child protection groups on remote islands. He holds Post Graduate qualifications in Advanced Social Work (Children and Families) from Goldsmiths College University of London, Child Advocacy from Otago University of New Zealand and Counseling from Waikato University New Zealand. Michael’s reputation is largely based on his ability to be genuinely and warmly interested in his clients and their lives while using his technical ability and experience to enable them to find their own answers to the situations they face. His career has seen him working in working in settings as diverse as frontline social work in a children and families team, working in the addiction field through to providing couple and individual counseling, family therapy, life coaching, anger management, parenting skills, professional supervision, and training. Michael is a member of the Aotearoa New Zealand Association of Social Workers for which he is a Competency Assessor. Michael has skills in working cross culturally and he is experienced in counseling via the internet. |
