Melissa is an Ohio State Licensed Counselor with a Master’s degree in Community Counseling from Kent State University. She currently works part-time as a Christian counselor for children and families, and full-time as a wife and mother of a toddler. Prior to working with young children, Melissa was a school-based counselor for adolescents and their families. Family involvement is an essential component of her work with children of all ages. She believes the family is a system, in which the pain of one member affects the entire family. For example, a child’s negative behaviors can be a reaction to difficulties in the parent’s marriage or because a sibling is chronically ill. Due to this reality, Melissa has been able to gain experience in working with a wide range of issues including depression, sexual abuse, Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), and anger management. Coming from a client-centered perspective, and using solution-focused and behavior modification techniques, Melissa has been able to help families and individuals alike to achieve their goals.
