Education and Training:
Richard received his Bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Natal, South Africa. He completed a year of Bible College in Dallas TX. After a few years “life experience,” developing a retail business, he completed a Master's degree in Community Counseling from Georgia State University, Atlanta. Richard also received a Diploma in Christian Counseling from the Psychological Studies Institute, Atlanta, for specialized training in the integration of theology and psychology.
Work History and Specialties:
Richard worked with a national provider of Christian inpatient mental health services providing assessment, inpatient, outpatient, on-line chat and phone counseling services. Since then, he has been providing counseling services for churches and the community on the south side of Atlanta. He has experience working with adults dealing with codependency, relationship issues, depression, anxiety, and grief and loss. He has specialized in working with married couples facing separation and divorce.
Theoretical Approach:
Richard's theoretical approach to counseling is influenced by various schools of thought (Client Centered, Cognitive Behavioral, Reality Therapy, Family Systems, and the Twelve Step model). For Christian clients he effectively integrates a Biblical worldview with psychological theory.
Richard has been married for seventeen years and has two children.
