Susan is a native of Rhode Island and is passionate about promoting peace and equality within relationships. Her interest in helping people started twenty years ago when she worked with adolescent groups at a local community center. She now holds an Associate's Degree in Human Services from Dean College, a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work & Psychology from Rhode Island College, and a Master's Degree in Holistic Counseling from Salve Regina University. Susan is certified in Grief Counseling and has taught Psychology at the college level. She has worked for many years in the Rhode Island prison system, counseling inmates on how to lead more peaceful, cooperative, harmonious, and non-violent lives. She was instrumental in creating the curriculum for the ACI Prison, the Kent Center, and Family Violence Agencies. Susan currently works with male and female offenders in gender specific groups at two community treatment agencies, assisting clients with anger techniques, safe behavior plans, substance abuse, sex abuse, self esteem, and communication skills. She helps her clients change their beliefs and behaviors using "RET", the Rational Emotive Therapy developed by Dr. Albert Ellis. Susan has had the opportunity to travel the world and is sensitive to cultural diversity. She is a member of the Rhode Island Coalition Against Domestic Violence and the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence. |
