Shelle' Monique Mathis is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Ohio. She is a native of Elyria, a mother of two beautiful children, Martel and Monique Mathis, and a 1983 graduate of Elyria High School. She obtained a Paralegal certificate from Tri-City Community College, an Associate of Arts degree from Lorain County Community College and is a recent graduate of Ashland Theological Seminary, obtaining her Masters of Arts degree in Clinical Pastoral Counseling. She is currently pursuing her Doctorate of Psychology (specialization in Marriage, Family and Children) with an expected graduation date of 2010. Ms. Mathis has recently completed and was sworn in as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (Guardian at Lietm) which is an advocate that represents the best interests of abused and neglected children in the juvenile court system. She has obtained her Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant certification and actively counsels youth addicted to drugs and alcohol together with their families. She has devised an extraordinary curriculum that teaches discipline and abstinence through the morals and foundation of Jesus the Christ. Her style and seminars has changed the lives of youth and families everywhere. She has done internet broadcasting for WCAN, commercial jingles and voice overlays. She is a member and Evangelist of Greater Victory Christian Ministries under the awesome tutelage of Pastor Ray Robinson, Jr. She is Vice President of AGAPE, Inc., Vice President of Sista-2-Sista, Inc., and Board Member of the Urban League Young Professionals. She is the founder and president of a prestigious non-profit organization “Lift Him Up Productions” a performing arts company. LHUP works with the at-risk population giving them an opportunity to express themselves through praise dance, drama, poetry and writing. “Today, young people need a safe haven, a place to go to express themselves and what better place to go instead of the streets...than on stage”. She has been contracted out with the Elyria Juvenile Court System to instill change in youth by using drama as a therapeutic tool. She is a praise dance instructor and has been teaching dance since 1993. She has a dynamic praise dance group called “God’s Movement” which has toured for the Universoul Circus (2005), opened for Melba Moore, Rock Hall of Fame, AGAPE, Inc., stage plays and various churches. She travels to many states teaching seminars to assist various organizations, groups and churches with developing a praise dance group called after God’s own heart. At the early age of 14 she began to write gospel musicals. She has studied drama and communications at Lorain County Community College and in the spring of 1983 she was accepted to Julliard’s Acting School in New York. Her experience, training, creativity and raw talent blossom her into the diamond in the rough. Displaying, through play writing, versatility, a powerful message of love and unity that captivates and transforms lives immediately. Her inspiration to write stems from her relationship with God and his fervent desire to utilize the treasure instilled in an earthen vessel. “If it is to be, it must begin with me” is her motto and “With God all things are possible” is her belief. In January 1995 she wrote a dramatic musical presentation entitled, “Empowering the Struggle” which depicted the love and life of Martin Luther King, Jr. for the city’s National Holiday Celebration. Since then Ms. Mathis has been on the wave of writing and performing skits and monologues for various agencies, hospitals, nursing homes, elementary, Junior High Schools among other facilities in Northeast Ohio. She wrote three one-act abstinence plays and produced a video that is used throughout Lorain County’s Junior High and High Schools as a model to teach abstinence. She has been called the “Toni Morrison of this decade” and the “Elisha” for this generation. Her talent extends to workshops (praise and worship for children/adults, drama, dance, youth empowerment) and empowerment seminars that encourage, stimulate and motivate any one that is blessed to be a participant. Her prodigy, “Deliverance” the stage play exposes sin in the camp (church), destroys its strongholds and sets free those engulfed by its power, has left audiences captivated as well as running to the stage asking what must I do to be born again. Another achievement, “I know I’ve been changed” was written and performed exclusively for the Grafton prison ministry. This phenomenal presentation depicts the struggles and hardships of life after prison that brings a message of hope. She has recently put efforts in helping victims of Hurricane Katrina by collaborating with other agencies, fundraisers, and benefit dinners. Her goal is to become a full-time writer and playwriter with high expectations of her newest film project.
