Karen is a licensed Master Teacher for students with emotional learning differences and a Registered Counselor (RC) in Washington State. She completed her MA in Psychology and Clinical Counseling at The Citadel in Charleston, North Carolina, and is currently pursuing her PhD. Karen received her MEd degree from the University of North Carolina prior to serving with the Peace Corps in Costa Rica. For 20 years, she has worked as a teacher, consultant, and counselor in various schools and mental health settings. Karen practices Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Client Centered Therapy, Reality Therapy, and Existential Philosophy. She believes that good counseling requires the best fit for each client. Karen understands that the "real" counseling occurs when client and counselor work together toward solving hard problems that make life difficult or hard to endure. Her therapeutic philosophy includes the belief that most people will usually find ways to tolerate difficulty in their lives. However, she would like to help people discover ways to live their lives more authentically, courageously, and abundantly! Karen has been married for fifteen years to an artist & teacher, and they have two incredibly wonderful children.
